The area around Welcombe, to the West, has some stunningly beautiful walks where one can find both tranquillity and inspiration. Visit Hartland Abbey and come upon the cobbled cliff side 'film set' village of Clovelly; continue on to the long sandy beach at Westward Ho!, the fascinating old harbour towns of Barnstaple and Bideford, both steeped in history and standing in traditional rivalry at the mouths of the rivers Taw and Torridge with Lundy Island beyond. 'The land of two rivers' can be explored on foot or bike along the 80 mile 'Tarka Trail' Coastal Path and Cycle way that follows the journeys in the novel of Tarka the Otter.

This superbly positioned detached cottage overlooks the Taw estuary with unspoilt countryside views that look across the water to rolling hills. Ashford is a small village, only three miles from Barnstaple leisure centre and restaurants, just six miles from the best sandy surfing beaches and golf course, and ten miles from Exmoor with riding and fishing. The cottage provides simple, no frills (reflected in the price), fairly spacious accommodation. It enjoys its own private garden and offers peace and quiet in this lovely corner of north Devon.

With Kitty and Kitty Cat, the cats and Gnat and Fly the sheepdogs providing yet more animal interest, glorious walks on the edge of Exmoor to be enjoyed (visit Moles Chamber a stunning view point from where you can see 5 different counties), yet only 10 miles from the sea, this is a great base for a holiday. The property, all on one level and suitable for partially disabled, is modern, comfortable and very well equipped, with a welcoming, delicious home-baked cake and milk provided on arrival.

There are three spacious bedrooms, two twin rooms with 3ft beds with two further 'Z' beds available and one double bedroom with 4ft 6in bed.

Willingcott Valley Golf Course
Willingcott Valley is a dramatic golf course with fantastic panoramic views. Off the yellow tees, the course has great visual impact, but the carries are still fairly manageable. It will provide a great day out provided you use your handicap allowance sensibly.

Saunton Sands Golf Club
Established in 1897 Saunton has a long history, voted 25th in the top 100 courses in the British Isles, the East course should not be missed when visiting the Southwest.  West Links Course - 18 hole 6708yds Par 71. East Links Course - 18 hole par 73
