Thurlestone, South-Devon
This very popular pretty village with its thatched cottages and colourful gardens benefits from its own warm, dry microclimate resulting in more sunny days per year than neighbouring villages a mile or two further inland. Thurlestone takes its name from the large distinctive rock off the shore and actually means pierced stone. There are several large sandy beaches, including South Milton Sands, which are safe for bathing and other more secluded coves, most of which are also good for swimming and they can be reached by walking across the prestigious golf course via public footpaths which form part of the South Devon coastal path. Look out for the remains of a shipwreck at low tide, one of many along this stretch of coastline. The village boasts one of the best hotels in Devon, (the bar, restaurant, beauty treatment salon and the 9 hole hotel golf course are open to the public). There is also a superb and famous 18 hole championship golf course (available to players with a handicap), an excellent pub - The Village Inn - which serves a first class thirst-quenching pint and good food and is said to have been partly constructed with the ships timbers from a stricken Armada vessel! Furthermore, there is a lovely old church beside the village green and a new small supermarket /post office and for those who enjoy a brisk stroll, the villages of Hope Cove and Bantham are both within walking distance along the beautiful cliff paths which offer stunning views at every turn, making Thurlestone the perfect setting for a fabulous holiday.

Auld Rectory Cottage
Situated next to The Old Rectory in the heart of this popular village within easy walking distance of the shops, pub, beach and golf course is this delightful cottage which has been imaginatively decorated and furnished in exquisite taste in keeping with its age and character. It has a wonderful atmosphere and is equipped to a very high standard with all home comforts catered for. Dining in the conservatory or on the sunny patio one could easily believe oneself to be in the Mediterranean with the colourful fabrics and French cafe style table and chairs. There is also plenty in the way of home entertainment for amusement on not-so-sunny days.
Bay Tree Cottage
Bay Tree Cottage is a very pretty thatched, classic cottage dating back to the 17th century situated in the centre of the village, a short walk from the village shop and the pub, with the beach being fifteen minutes' walk away. This picture postcard, light and spacious cottage retains an abundance of character throughout with low ceilings and exposed beams in some rooms. The garden, being surprisingly large, is almost completely secluded and is a sheer delight.
Heathfield
Heathfield is a handsome detached Edwardian villa, one of the first to be built on Thurlestone's Yarmer estate and is a much loved family home that has been in the same family for several generations. The villa, which has recently been refurbished, provides graceful living in the supremely spacious rooms of a bygone era and most of which overlook the extensive gardens of nearly an acre and have stunning views towards the headland of Bolt Tail and the curve of Bigbury Bay. A few minutes' walk from this fine house is the sandy horseshoe beach of Thurlestone Sands, the well known Thurlestone Golf Course (handicap required) and the local tennis courts
Neptunes Niche
On a sunny day the view from Neptune's Niche is very evocative of the Mediterranean with white walls, shimmering pool and fantastic blue seascape views . Just below the first floor balcony is a wide open terrace, surrounding a superb, heated swimming pool (May to September) and hot tub, edged with low walls, steps down to a further private sun terrace and from there straight onto the sandy beach with rock pools where you can swim, sail, surfboard, windsurf or just paddle a canoe. This end of terrace, reverse level cottage is comfortable with easy access to Thurlestone village and its renowned golf course and hotel.
Thurlestone Golf Club
Situated right on the coast, the course is a mix of links and cliff-top terrain. The course is well-draining and rarely suffers from frost, so it is rarely closed due to bad weather. From the Kingsbridge to Salcombe road take the turning to Thurlestone, or South Milton, and continue through either village until you reach the sea. The course measures 6230 yards from the White Tees, whilst the ladies are faced with 5538 yards. Spectacular views may be enjoyed from every hole on the course, which provides a challenge to all levels of golfer, especially when the wind blows.
