About:   Rathmore derives its name from the hugh Celtic rath or fort which is to be found beside the Church of Ireland in Rathmore Village. The rath which is called The Moate by the locals is just 50 yards up the road and offers wonderful views from the top. Nineteenth century excavations on the site unearthed a burial mound dating back to the Bronze Age and the remains of a Norman Motte and Bailey fortification.

Kilteel boasts the ruins of a 6th Century Monastic settlement and market place with world renowned Romanesque stone arches and carvings, an ancient graveyard and a 14th Century "Keep". or Kilteel Castle as it is known locally is in excellent repair and visits to it can be arranged with the present owner. All of these are under the auspices and care of the Office of Public Works.The village also boasts a small enclosed forest containing one of the last remaining groups of ancient dwarf oak trees that once covered all of Ireland. It contains a wonderful variety of unusual flora and fauna. It is subject to a Government Preservation Order and is known locally as "The Foxes Covert" from where the Killing Kildare Hunt group often start out.

Kilteel Inn: Local pub Brennans Kilteel Inn is an ‘Old world' pub situated in historic village (Kilteel has a 13th century keep and Romanesque ruins), just 14 miles from Dublin city centre Brennan's is Kildare's highest pub at 700ft above sea level affording panoramic views of the Midlands. Facilities include pool table, jukebox, and TV's.The décor is "olde world", boasting antique red brick walls, pitch pine woodwork and back bar, tiled floors and two Victorian open fire places. A typical old Irish Pub containing dozens of antique jugs and other bric-a-brac. You feel the warm welcome the minute you step into the place.

The K Club

Palmer Course 18 holes, 72 par, 7178 yards. Parkland: Arnold Palmer designed the The Palmer Ryder Cup golf course with real golfing prowess in mind. At 7,179 yards with a par of 72, the winding fairways of the Palmer golf course cleverly incorporate the old trees and water hazards, making it a golf course that is being talked about all over the world today.

Smurfit Course 18 holes, 72 par, 7300 yards. Inland : With all the appearance and feel of an inland links, the golf course features undulating fairways, large difficult greens and treacherous rough. The Palmer Smurfit golf course does however share the same abundance of challenging water hazards as the Palmer Ryder Cup. It will accommodate all levels of player, with several tees on each hole allowing for the overall length of the golf course to be considerably reduced.

 

Craddockstown Golf Course

Craddockstown Golf Club, situated on the outskirts of Naas, is an idyllic parkland course set in the beautiful surroundings of the Kildare countryside. It provides a true test for golfers of any standard with several signature holes surrounded by beautiful water features. The bunkering is well located and lurks to catch that wayward tee or approach shot. There is an abundance of wildlife on the course to enhance the natural setting of Craddockstown Golf Club. The club house is centrally placed to ensure panoramic views over the course.
