We have four period properties at Westcove - an area 1 mile west of Castlecove, 3 miles east of Caherdaniel, overlooking the beautiful Kenmare Estuary, just off the famous 'Ring of Kerry', one of the most scenic drives in Ireland, one hour south of Killarney, with its magnificent lakes.

 

There are lovely beaches, pubs and historic sites within 15 minutes drive, also numerous possible excursions:- north to Killarney with its famous lakes, northwest to the legendary Dingle Peninsular, west to Waterville, Balliskellings and Valencia Island, from where you can take an unforgettable boat trip to the Skelligs.

 

To the south lies Bantry Bay, which is reached via spectacular mountain passes. Kerry and West Cork are dotted with wonderful tropical gardens, especially beautiful in May and June. The countryside immediately surrounding Castlecove is ideally suited for all types of walking, ranging from gentle strolls along lovely sandy beaches to more serious hikes over craggy hills. The famous 'Kerry Way' walk takes you along the ridge of hills, all the way from Waterville to Kenmare and is well sign posted, but still wonderfully unspoiled.

 

Westcove House :  Westcove House is a Georgian Manor House, sleeping 10 with 5 shower/bath rooms. Weekly rentals are available from €2,500 to include electricity, gas and daily cleaning. We hope that tenants will use our excellent cook for at least 2 dinners per week. Breakfast and extra housekeeping can also be arranged full options available on request. The house sleeps ten comfortably - two doubles, two twins, two adjoining single bedrooms and five bath/shower rooms. Accommodation for a further eleven is available in 'The Stables' or for a further 5 in 'Garden Cottage'. The terrace to the front of the house is stone-clad and overlooks the harbour and Kenmare Estuary. It has a built-in barbecue and comfortable garden furniture. A rowing boat is available at tenant's own risk. A Games Room and Studio, located in The Stables building but approachable from the outside,(and a Sauna area with excercise space, shower and loo) -are facilities shared by all the properties

The Stables : The Stables is situated in the grounds of Westcove House and sleeps up to 11, also with sea views, but more suitable for self catering and young children, with 3 bath / shower rooms, (not ensuite). Weekly rentals start at €1,200 to include electricity and gas. The Stables provide an ideal annex to Westcove House – perfect for family re-unions, golf groups etc. (Daily cleaning is included only when rented with Westcove House but is available at extra cost, as is cooking, when rented separately. "The Stables" was converted in the 1960s and its facilities have been regularly updated over the years - The entire first floor, including games room, studio and all bedrooms and bathrooms were completely refurbished 2006/7.) The Stables also has Wi-Fi internet access. It sleeps up to eleven people and provides an ideal annexe to Westcove House, particularly useful for extended family re-unions, being very suitable for children. It is also available for renting on its own. All upstairs bedrooms have a good sea view.

Garden Cottage : A traditional 18th century 3 bedroom stone cottage. Lying adjacent to Westcove House, but completely secluded. We anticipate that Garden Cottage will be a popular alternative to The Stables as an annex to The House when parties number between 10 and 14 or when there are more singles required – golfers etc.) We have now completed the renovation of a traditional 18th century stone cottage – probably originally built as a dwelling for farm workers and ’wasted’ as a workshop/woodstore since the early 20th century. It consists of a spacious living room with kitchen, dining area, a wood burning stove and large patio doors, opening south, to a stone terrace and magnificent views over the Kenmare estuary. Turf and logs for the woodburner is included.

Local activities include all water sports:with facilities for all ages, including swimming, water-skiing, windsurfing, sailing and canoeing. Scuba diving facilities are also available locally.

Fishing: Salmon, trout and sea fishing can be arranged locally.

Shooting: During the winter shooting can be arranged.

Riding: Beach riding and pony trekking are available 2 miles away at Caherdaniel.

Eating Out: There are several excellent and varied restaurants around. The convivial atmosphere of the Irish pub is legendary - the whole family can be assured of a very warm welcome, and after closing time, during the summer, there are often discos for the young, and 'young at heart'!

 

Golf Courses

There are five excellent and varied golf courses within ¾ of an hours drive of Westcove and we will be able to offer you discounted green fees at Waterville and many other courses in the area.

 

Waterville Golf Club
A challenging, immaculately maintained 18 hole links course, only 10 miles (20-25 minutes drive) to the west. Tiger Woods and other top pros often use it as a practise ground’ for the British Open. Well worth a round for more serious golfers and discounted green fees can be arranged. Well worth an early start, as you’re likely to be held up by over-zealous golfers wanting to hole every putt!

 

Skellig Bay Golf Club
An excellent new addition to our local golfing options. The panoramic views back over Lough Currane and across the sea to the Skellig Islands are stunning on a clear day. This links-type course boasts many challenging unusual holes, a ‘must’ for golfing enthusiasts of any standard.

 

Parknasilla Golf Course 
This 12 hole course on the estuary (3 miles beyond Sneem towards Kenmare) has to be one of the most stunningly beautiful, short courses in the world. Take lots of old balls – they tend to plug in damp conditions and there is a lot of woodland and gorse.Every hole however is very challenging – a really pretty walk for non-golfers too.

 

Ring of Kerry  
The Ring of Kerry Golf & Country Club is located amidst the most stunning scenery imaginable. Overlooking beautiful and serene Kenmare Bay with the Kerry mountains providing a wonderful backdrop, the setting is surely one of the best in Ireland. The course itself, 6814 yds from the medal tees, is hilly with dramatic elevation changes and a challenging layout. Lakes abound ready to catch your errant ball, should you be distracted from your shot by the surrounding views.

 

Kenmare Golf Club

About 45 minutes drive. Kenmare golf course boasts some of the finest scenery imaginable. The views over Kenmare bay and the surrounding mountains take one’s breath away. The course has some great feature holes and is always in first class condition which are all the ingredients for a wonderful round of golf.
