Drybeck Hall, the home of Anthony and Lulie Hothfield, is a beautiful listed Grade 2* traditional farmhouse built in local sandstone in 1679. It is set in a picturesque peaceful valley surrounded by grass fields where sheep and cattle graze. If you want to get away from the hustle and bustle of the modern world, this is the place for you to recharge your batteries and enjoy the tranquillity of our family home and its surroundings.
This warm and comfortable house retains many original features and is furnished in a traditional manner with an open wood fire in the pretty sitting room. There is an attractive garden to wander around or you can sit in the front garden and enjoy a view that has changed little over the years, a world away from day to day routine. It is ideally situated to explore the unspoilt Eden Valley.
There is a large hard tennis cour within the grounds. You can bring your horse to stay as well and enjoy riding on the Orton Fells maybe accompanied by Lulie on her Icelandic horse Loki. Anthony’s family have had a home in the area for some 800 years and he is knowledgeable about his famous ancestor Lady Anne Clifford. In his youth Anthony was British Real Tennis Amateur Champion.
There are several good eating places in Appleby-in-Westmorland but if you want to eat in, Lulie, a trained cook, will provide you with a delicious meal as long as you book in advance. Her specialities include soup made with fresh sorrel from her garden, curried fish and homemade strawberry and damson ice cream

Both bedrooms are spacious with luxurious beds and have wonderful views towards the Yorkshire Dales. On the chest of drawers there are always posies of fresh flowers from the garden.
The double is a pretty room with an interesting fireplace and an ensuite shower room.
The twin bedded has three windows and lots of books for you to enjoy. It has an ensuite bathroom

The Eden Valley is bounded on three sides by superb countryside – the North Pennines "Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty to the east, the Yorkshire Dales National Park to the south and theLake District National Park to the west. The River Eden rises in the fells of Mallerstang Common and meanders down the Eden Valley before reaching the Solway Firth by Carlisle and the Scottish Border.This is superb walking country.
Visit some of the homes of Lady Anne Clifford Brougham and Brough Castles in the Eden Valley,Pendragon Castle in the Mallerstang Valley or take the Carlisle - Settle railway and stop off to seeSkipton Castle.
Ullswater Steamers offer a relaxing way to enjoy the spectacular scenery of the area; or you can walk one way and take the boat back to your car. Visit Keswick on the banks of Derwentwater Lake with its many associations with Beatrix Potter one of the founders of the National Trust.
Enjoy a game at Appleby Golf Club with its spectacular views and wonderful bird life or walk in the magnificent Howgill Fells. Leacett Riding Centre offers excellent opportunities to enjoy the local area on horseback.
If you are a gardener, Holker Hall, Levens Hall, Sizergh Castle, Dalemain, Hutton-in-the-Forestand Acorn Bank are all a drive away or visit Larch Cottage Nurseries at Melkinthorpe

Appleby Golf Club, founded in 1894, is located on the outskirts of the ancient royal borough of Appleby-in-Westmorland in Cumbria. A warm welcome awaits both members and visitors seven days a week throughout the year The moorland course is renowned for its excellent greens – some say ‘the best in Cumbria. The course measures 5993 par 68 (SSS 69) for men and 5342 yards, par 72 for ladies and is a fair and enjoyable test for beginners through to more experienced golfers. The greens are superbly maintained, playing well throughout the year, and with the land being free-draining is generally always playable.
