Guests will have the possibility to enjoy extraordinary breakfasts in the most tranquil forest setting by the pool in the garden or in the vaulted living room. Secluded in the green, La Polveriera is surrounded by beeches, oaks and chestnuts and a starting point for panoramic walks.
The town of Allumiere, where ‘La Polveriera' is located, is also close to cultural sites to visit: 80 Km. from Rome, the sea-side in Santa Severa and Tarquinia are only twenty minutes drive away and the archeological treasures of the Tuscia area, are all around. ‘La Polveriera' is located on the Tolfa Mountains, 500 mts. above sea level, overlooking the city of Civitavecchia and the town of Tarquinia.
The first inhabited building on site, goes back to1460 with the opening of the mines of allumite and deriving the name of the town. The Pontificial State, owning the area, commissioned the building of two deposits for gun-powder used to facilitate the extraction of this precious mineral from caves. ‘La Polveriera' is the one building left, dating back to 1804, commissioned by the Papal Apostolic Chamber and planned by the architect Francesco Navone. A refined renovation of the building was recently done, maintaining the original structure and now turned into a unique residential house which offers its B&B guests a friendly welcome.
