Kvarteret Sillen Cafe & Gästhus 

The Barlow family welcomes you to our home in Ekenäs old town. We are delighted to be able to share with you the beautiful surroundings and relaxing atmosphere of the traditional quarter, Kvarteret Sillen. The main buildings date from the 1890s and have been recently renovated and refurbished. The garden offers many secluded corners for contemplation or conversation over a cup of coffee and a freshly baked cake.

 

Our guest accommodation is provided in two of the smaller houses within Kvarteret Sillen: Bagarstugan and Strandboden. All accommodation is provided on a bed and breakfast basis. For our breakfasts we use fresh local produce whenever possible and are happy to cater for special dietary needs.

 

Bagarstugan is a renovated bakehouse from the late 19th century. The ground floor has a double bedroom, kitchen with tea and coffee making facilities, bathroom and living room. Upstairs has twin beds and a living area. The house has spectacular views over the boats in the bay to the Ramsholmen nature reserve beyond. Bagarstugan is equipped with a television and DVD player and also benefits from a separate garden with outside dining area.

 

Cost - Summer prices (June, July and August):

€150 per night - up to 2 persons.

€200 per night - 3 or 4 persons. 

Winter prices (September to May) as above less 25%.

 

Strandboden is part of the traditional long storage buildings which make up one side of the block. It sleeps two in a very generous room which includes a comfortable seating area in addition to twin beds. There is a shower room and tea and coffee-making facilities. Strandboden has an outside terrace with views over the bay.

 

Cost - Summer prices (June, July and August):

€120 per night - up to 2 persons.

Winter prices (September to May) as above less 25%.

 

Staying guests can also enjoy our summer cafe which provides morning coffee, lunch or afternoon tea in the garden or in the main house. The cafe will be open in 2011 from Saturday 18th June to Sunday 28th August, from 10am to 7pm Tuesday to Sunday (closed Mondays). Our cakes and pastries are made on the premises following our favourite family recipes. Chocolate fudge cake, rhubarb pie and fresh muffins are among the delights on offer. We also serve Pappagallo ice cream, a locally produced brand said by many to be the best in Finland! Each day we offer a soup, a pasta dish and a salad for lunch between 11am and 3pm. These are also all made here in Kvarteret Sillen. At least one lunch dish each day is vegetarian and we may be able to cater for other dietary needs upon request.

GOLF:

Kvarteret Sillen is only a 10 minute drive from Ekenäs' new golf course, EkeGolf (www.ekegolf.fi).  Eke Golf is a 6000m (men´s tee) par 72 course, designed by Mika Lindroos and laid out in the beautiful forests of Ekenäs.

The top class Range, Practice area and 9 hole Par 3 course, offer an excellent opportunity for game improvement, for everyone from complete beginners to expert players. An English speaking Pro is available for green card courses and group or private lessons.  Most fairways are built on a gently undulating landscape, which gives particularly beautiful vistas. The course runs through varied landscapes including a genuine old natural forest with both deciduous and coniferous trees and partly by the beach overlooking a beautiful bay. Some of the holes are quite spectacular. The fairways and greens are in excellent condition all season.

Further golfing opportunities are available at Nordcenter Golf , approximately 30 minutes away from Sillen by car. (www.nordcenter.com).  Nordcenter has two 18-hole championship courses, Fream and Benz, which are very different, both as to their challenges and the surrounding landscape. They both offer, however, unique challenges and experiences for golfers at all levels. The Benz course offers broad fairways, large greens and a beautiful scenery. In addition to strategically placed bunkers, the numerous grass bunkers and large woodland ponds add to the park-like and friendly character of the course. Many of the greens are located in the middle of an undulating area. The most unforgettable character of the Fream course is the varied terrain with its great differences of elevation and its superior scenery. The course winds along the lush seaside, in forest upland with extreme differences of elevation, and then back to the old park grounds of the manor.
