Lemons Guest House near Versilia Golf Club, near Pietrasanta, Tuscany, Italy.

Welcome to Lemons, a private home and traditional Tuscan stone villa built in the 1800’s which lay empty for many years until artist Erica Beard-Cavalli purchased and restored it in early 2012. The process of transforming it into a bed and breakfast was, like any similar project, at times challenging, but also full of joys such as bringing back to life the frescoes which adorn many of the rooms.

Lemons lies in the tiny village of Valdicastello Carducci, beneath the stunning Apuan Alps and the hamlet of Sant’Anna di Stazzema, approximately 5 minutes away from the artists’ town of Pietrasanta and less than 15 minutes from the sandy beaches of the Versilia coast.

With just five bedrooms, each decorated in individual style, a jacuzzi and sauna and a working artists’ studio, Lemons offers boutique accommodation that blends traditional with modern comforts. The result is a welcoming and elegant atmosphere that combines privacy and tranquillity with a sense of home.

Its tranquil setting, beautiful garden and proximity to wonderful hikes in the hills behind it makes Lemons an ideal base for exploring the area of northern Tuscany as well as the perfect intimate wedding venue.

Rooms

We have decorated each of the rooms based on the characteristics of the original décor, particularly the wonderful frescoes that we have restored and the exposed beams. In converting the house, which had lain unused for many years, we of course needed to install new bathrooms to bring them up to date with 21st century standards. However, in doing so, we have tried to create a comfortable juxtaposition of modern facilities with the atmosphere of this beautiful old building.

Given Lemon’s proximity to the renowned artistic centre of Pietrasanta, and reflecting Erica’s background as an artist, we have named each of the rooms after artists.

MATISSE is predominantly red and can be configured with one double bed or two singles. It has its own balcony where you can sit and read, sip something suitably refreshing or just enjoy the view of the garden.

MONET is decorated in a muted shade of purplish blue with lovely silver highlights. It consists of two singles or one double bed and overlooks the garden.

CHAGALL is a lovely blue room with wonderful frescoed walls. It has a double bed and boasts a view of the hills.

DEGAS is a charming double room, nestled under the roof. It is decorated in tones of white and includes a beautiful roll top bath. It will be available from August.

PICASSO has a double bed and is decorated in classic regency grey and white stripes, whilst its bathroom is painted in muted tones of sage green. It overlooks the hills behind the house.

Services

Complimentary breakfast is served either in the dining room or outside in the garden between 08.00 and 10.30.

If you are an established or even a budding sculptor, we invite you to use our clay sculpture studio. There is no charge for this, apart from the materials you use.

Complimentary wi-fi is available throughout the house and also in the garden.

We offer complimentary pickup from Pietrasanta train station.

Pisa Airport pickup is available. We charge €25 per carload to cover fuel and road tolls.

If you would like to spend an evening “at home”, we can provide dinner on request. During the summer months this is served under a grape-laden pergola and prepared using, where possible, ingredients from our own garden or from the local markets.

Guests can also enjoy the spa and sauna for a small extra charge, and we can arrange in-house massages on request.

The Area

Valdicastello Carducci lies beneath the Apuan Alps and is ideally placed for those who want beach time, those wishing to hike in the hills, or for those who wish to explore the towns and villages of northern Tuscany.

There are a number of walking trails immediately behind Lemons, one of which leads to Sant’Anna di Stazzema which is sadly best known for the massacre that took place towards the end of the Second World War.

We can recommend different walks, but if cycling is your preferred way to sightsee, you can easily reach Pietrasanta, Camaiore and the beach on two wheels.

Within 30 minutes you can reach many local places including the beaches and towns of Versilia, Pisa and Lucca, whilst in just over an hour you can find yourself in Florence or the stunning Ligurian collection of villages known as Cinque Terre.

Versilia Golf Club

The course, set like a diamond between the Apuan Alps and the sea, has been designed by the hand of the famous and creative Venetian architect Marco Croze. The Versilia Golf Club is an island in full bloom extending on the territories of Pietrasanta, Forte dei Marmi and Montignoso. A matchless landscape that fascinated the regular customers of the Versilia Golf Club, who, even if playing a few hundred meters away from the sea, take advantage of the Apuan Alps peaks and use them as a “target” for their own tee shot.
