We have designed The Old Manse Barn to offer contemporary special self contained accommodation with an unusual modern bed and breakfast self catering approach. The secluded position with extensive rural views offers a private, luxury retreat if you are looking to get away from it all - or a 'home from home' if you are travelling on business. A great base for exploring Suffolk.

 

With its own front door, drive and ample secure parking it's more than just a B & B. The fridge will be well stocked with breakfast and you can enjoy it at your leisure whilst watching the chickens wander in the field. Timing is up to you. You are free to enjoy your stay in privacy. We are happy to help whenever we can and guarantee a friendly welcome and relaxing stay.

 

Accommodation

The view from the first floor apartment's queen size bed is over open countryside and fields. The perfect place to watch the night sky and sunrise or just get a good peaceful night's sleep.

 

An added attraction of a small kitchen provides essentials such as kettle, toaster, fridge, microwave oven, plates, glasses and cutlery.

 

Fresh fruit, cereals, ham, cheese and local produce are provided for your breakfast in the apartment. Ideal if you need to leave early, or prefer a relaxing start to your day.

 

The lounge area has a leather sofa and chair, TV with Freeview, DVD and CD player with surround sound. A small selection of DVD and CD are available but If you were looking forward to an evening in, why not bring your own

 

Shower room with hand basin and toilet. Spacious easy to use shower with tiled sitting area. Heated towel rail, bathrobes and slippers

 

Cockfield has 2 pubs with evening menus and is well serviced with eating places in the surrounding villages. Historic Lavenham, just 4 miles away, provides a range of restaurants and pubs for all occasions, for that special romantic evening, to casual and relaxed informal dining.

 

Location and Tariffs

 

Cockfield lies 7 miles from the market town of Bury St.Edmunds, famous for the Abbey Ruins and gardens. . The town centre host a traditional market every Wednesday and Saturday. Lavenham, just 4 miles away, has been describe as 'One of the finest medieval villages in England' with it's historic buildings and street. The splendid 16th century Guildhall of Corpus Christi (National trust) dominates the Market Place. Visit Southwold, Aldeburgh, Snape Maltings or Newmarket, home of Horse Racing. Cambridge with it's fine universities, shopping, punting on the River Cam and Constable country, East Bergholt are all within reach

Stowmarket Golf Club

A parkland course as pretty and challenging as you'll find anywhere, combined with an atmosphere of friendliness that's a sheer delight. The River Rat runs through the middle of the course, adding that little bit extra to the 2nd and 5th holes, while the undulating Suffolk hills of the back nine provide some of the most scenic views that you will find anywhere in the county.

 

Stoke by Nayland Golf Club

Created in the early '70s both the Gainsborough and Constable courses are well-established amongst lakes, streams and mature woodland. The designs skilfully incorporate the inherent natural beauty of the land and, with conservation a priority; over 60,000 trees have been planted.

The Gainsborough Course measures 7,000 yards with a Par of 72. The beautifully undulating terrain and four substantial lakes provide golfers of all abilities with a challenging test of their skills

The Constable course is equally picturesque, set amongst wooded fairways and several natural water hazards in glorious peaceful countryside. It measures 6,544 yards with a Par of 72


Brett Vale Golf Club
An idyllic course situated at Raydon surrounded by stunning Constable Country. The 18 hole 5,864 yard course offers a challenge to players of all ages and handicaps and offers first class facilities.

Newton Green Golf Club
The club’s carefully prepared 18-hole course offers a unique experience of heath and parkland golf. A recent award-winning members’ club founded more than a century ago, with the original nine holes set out on the gorse-lined Newton village green, it now has a well-established second nine added in 1991.

Hintlesham Hall Golf Club
The 18 hole, par 72 layout included the special challenges of the signature 4th and 17th holes, the latter being part of one of the best finishes in the region.

 

Bury St Edmunds Golf Club

The 18-hole course at Bury St Edmunds is regarded as one of the finest of its type. Mature, rolling parkland , with a stunning setting that includes magnificent native woodland and glimpses of a variety of wildlife. No water, but our trees and 69 strategically-placed bunkers help to concentrate the mind and if the wind blows the holes' frequent changes of direction add to the challenge. The nine-hole pay-and-play course (for which no handicap certificate is required), less mature than the main course but no less attractive
