The bed and breakfast property stands in beautiful south facing grounds with a terrace for your enjoyment in the good weather and there is ample off street parking. We have a delightful residents’ lounge and a well stocked library. Breakfast is served around our large dining room table.
We have three guest bedrooms available, each with an en suite bathroom, tea/coffee making facilities, hair dryers and flat screen televisions
The Manor House is situated on the A684, approximately 0.5 miles from the historic market town of Bedale (which is within walking distance and offers a good range of amenities). The area is an ideal base for those wishing to explore the Yorkshire Dales, James Herriot country and the North Yorkshire Moors, with the cathedral city of Ripon being only twenty minutes drive away and the medieval city of York and delightful spa town of Harrogate within an hour’s drive.
We are not only surrounded by magnificent countryside and scenery but the ancient castles of Middleham, Richmond, Raby, Bolton, Barnard Castle (and Bowes Museum), the ruined abbeys of Jervaulx, Fountains and Riveaulx and the beautiful gardens of Constable Burton and arboretum at Thorp Perrow. The Wensleydale Railway is within walking distance from us and runs steam trains during the summer months.
The local Dales & District bus company run regular services into Northallerton and the Dales. Catterick, Masham and Richmond not too far away. For the beer connoisseurs we have the breweries of Theakston and Black Sheep in Masham.

Two deluxe double bedrooms with en suite shower rooms. These two bedrooms have recently been totally refurbished and can each be booked for single occupancy.
All our bedrooms are individually furnished and decorated and have hospitality trays, hair dryers and flat screen televisions.
We have a delightful south westerly facing residents’ lounge for your relaxation during the summer months and a library which is well stocked with books to suit all tastes, games and jigsaws.
Breakfast is served around our large dining room table and for those wishing to enjoy a traditional English breakfast all our produce is sourced locally.

]]>Welcome to Thorpe Lodge, an elegant listed Georgian house that is the family home of Tommy and Juliet Jowitt. The colourful rooms are all full of antiques, masses of pictures, ornaments, and comfortable soft furniture, adding up to the quintessential informal English country house look par excellence. The guest rooms are large, full of light, and exceptionally well thought-out, thanks to interior designer Juliet’s experience doing up some of the UK’s major hotels.
Twelve acres of beautiful gardens and woodland have been created over the last twenty years by Tommy and successfully mix natural, country, and formal styles. Explore the spectacular borders, the walled garden with its wonderful roses, and the hornbeam walk. From the first snowdrops in January, through the daffodils and bluebells in the spring to beds ablaze with colour throughout the summer and autumn, the garden is a constant joy. The house is right in the middle of the county of North Yorkshire, at the gateway to the Yorkshire Dales about two miles south of Ripon, and is ideal for a luxurious and relaxing break.
The house and bedrooms face south, with a sunny terrace overlooking the large lawn, the blue and white borders, and on over the haha to open countryside beyond. Within a few miles, however, are the famous Yorkshire Dales, Herriott country, the moors, and natural wonders such as Brimham Rocks, Malham Tarn, and Aysgarth Falls.
The gardens are opened once a year for the National Gardens Scheme, but group visits are welcomed at any time by arrangement. Lunches, dinners, and teas can be provided, as well as facilities for private dinner parties or small meetings. More information on request.
Ponds reflect the tall cypresses and the statues in the rose garden, which is filled entirely with fragrant old roses. The guest bedrooms overlook the main gardens, but guests will arrive into the courtyard at the back of the house, giving them their own door into the rooms in the South Wing.
The courtyard itself is one of the main attractions of Thorpe Lodge, a suntrap with a riot of pots containing daturas, palms, marguerites and many other colourful annuals set on cobbles around the fountain.
The Yellow Room is one of two large luxury guest bedrooms in the South Wing. Juliet has put to good use all her experience gained during years as an interior designer for some of the country’s leading hotels, and both rooms have every imaginable comfort. They have capacious sitting areas, with television, video, hot drinks tray, and a sizeable desk.
While guests are requested not to smoke in the bedrooms, there is a private sitting room, with a television, where cigarettes may be enjoyed in peace. Plenty of books and videos ensure that there never need be a dull moment, and there is always the wonderful garden to explore or just to relax in: perhaps in the swimming pool, weather permitting.
The Green Room, like the Yellow Room, has its own attractive bathroom en-suite with a bath and shower. Both rooms can be arranged with twin beds or a king-sized double, and are furnished and decorated to make guests feel welcome, comfortable and at home.
Delicious breakfasts, from simple to full English, are served in the sunroom overlooking the courtyard during the summer, and in the colder months in the winter dining room with its eclectic picture collection. A list of the many local pubs and restaurants serving fine English food will be supplied, or sumptuous dinners at Thorpe Lodge can be booked by arrangement.
The long drive is lined from January onwards with a profusion of snowdrops, daffodils, bluebells and cow parsley, until in June the garden proper takes over. A hornbeam walk leads to the new woodland, with colourful shrubs and English hardwood trees; older beech and other trees are bordered by a yew and box avenue with beds of special grasses. Beyond the main lawn is the walled garden, with a line of ancient fruit trees, a swimming pool, the rose garden, and a large yellow border which creates a wonderful burst of summer colour. More woodland near the paddock includes a red border, a cherry walk, a gingko tree, a fine walnut, and several acacias.

Dr. Alistair Mackenzie, the leading golf course architect, designed this course at Oakdale Golf Club which has been in use ever since it was founded in 1914. Now, some ninety years later, it is still enjoyed by many golfers from all around Yorkshire and has an active and lively membership who always welcome visitors to their fine course.
Knaresborough Golf Club was established in 1920. A gem of a golf course located just outside the market town of Knaresborough in one of the most beautiful areas of North Yorkshire. Set in undulating parkland with mature wooded areas and surrounded by open countryside, .
If you enjoy a nice relaxing round you’ll be in golfing heaven at Aldwark Manor Golf Club: the golf course sits perfectly within 120 acres of parkland, featuring mature, rare trees which help to create a wonderfully tranquil atmosphere. All this and with a 19th century Manor House as its centrepiece.
Located only 2 miles from the centre of the famous spa town, Harrogate Golf Club is a mature parkland course in a picturesque setting and benefits from spectacular floral displays in the Spring. The current course measures a little less than 6250 yards and is on fairly flat terrain. It is widely regarded as a fair test of golf, requiring accuracy rather than distance off the tee.
Rudding Park is the most comprehensive golfing facility in the North of England. The range of experiences is second to none, appealing to members, visitors and corporate days alike. The bedroom has a double bed, dressing table, double wardrobe and bedside cabinets providing ample space for all your belongings.
The utility room has a washing machine and tumble dryer, and the shower room has a fully tiled shower, toilet and wash hand basin.
The Apartment is heated with gas central heating, and hot water is available at all times through the combi boiler. Instructions for all appliances are close at hand. All bed linen and tea towels are provided but please note that towels are not provided. electricity and heating is included in the price of your stay.

Restaurant
Our fully licensed restaurant caters for all tastes and dietary requirements. Food is available from our widely varied A La Carte menu from 12 until 2:00 in the afternoon and 6.00pm until 9:00 in the evenings.
Bar meals are also available. On Sundays food is served from 12 mid-day until 2.30pm and again at night between 6.00pm and 8.30pm. Our function room caters for parties of all descriptions, seating 30 at the banqueting table. In total, 80 guests can be accommodated utilising the whole restaurant. Ideal for wedding receptions, office parties and other celebrations. The dance floor is ideal for evening parties. We always use fresh local produce whenever possible. All our meat and fish is sourced locally - the beef comes from the "Givendale" herd - steaks being one of our restaurant's specialities.

Ganton, ranked in the top 30 of Europe’s Championship courses, has hosted many national and international tournaments and is a perfect place to play golf. The terrain is sandy and gently undulating – a blend of links and heathland. The fairways are firm and fast. The bunkers are cunningly placed and sometimes cavernous - and the greens are perfection, in summer and winter alike.
The tranquil Driffield Golf Course is surrounded by the farmland which lends natural features to the course. These play host to a wide variety of wildlife. A particular feature is the trout stream which runs through the course. With tree lined fairways, streams and ponds all demanding accuracy, this easy walking course presents a true challenge for the golfer.
Filey is an attractive parkland course with stunning views over Filey Bay. It is characterised by lush fairways and superb greens and boasts many varied and testing golf holes.
The Belvedere Bridlington Golf Club
It is an easy walking, 6638 yard course, with some of the finest greens in the area. The presentation of the course is excellent. With thousands of trees screening the fairways, six water features and many well-positioned bunkers, it offers a challenge to the discerning golfer.
18 Hole | Par 72 Links Course Bridlington Links Golf & Leisure Estate boasts a fine 6719 yard golf course with a distinctive “links feel” and breathtaking views of Bridlington Bay and the town. The par 72 course offers spectacular holes along the cliff tops and Danes Dyke and is a challenge to all levels of golfer.
Beverley Golf Course is located near to the racecourse and is a leisurely 5,700 yards course. Founded in 1889, the Westwood course is arguably the oldest in Yorkshire. It boasts an enviable mix of golfing landscape - parkland, heathland and links - taking advantage of the ups and downs of the rolling fairways and magnificent views of the market town of Beverley.
27 hole, easy walking, parkland course, offering ultimate flexibility with three loops of nine all leading back at the clubhouse. Some would commend the forgiving nature of the layout, Malton and Norton nevertheless asks all the right questions to test even the most demanding golfer. Maintained to the highest possible standards, the course will not disappoint.
Scarborough South Cliff Golf Club
The Golf Club is situated approximately one mile south of the town centre and is split by Filey Road which makes the course very distinctive with parkland holes and links style holes on the coastal side. The coastal holes all have spectacular views over the town and will find playing our course both enjoyable and challenging whatever your handicap.
Scarborough North Cliff Golf Club
North Cliff Golf Club, rated by many as the fineeach fully equipped with en-suitted 2 miles north of Scarborough, North Yorkshire, on the coastal road to Whitby. Although mainly a parkland course, it does have a cliff top start and finish. Stunning views of both the North Bay and Castle make this James Braid designed course both a delight and a challenge to play at any time of the year.
